Explore the art of the London Underground
If you are planning a stay at a
London B+B this
year, you will probably find yourself travelling on the
city’s Underground at least once. If so, you may be
interested by the sights on offer at the London Transport
Museum in Convent Garden.
As well as an impressive collection of
classic vehicles and a wide range of historical films and
photographs, the museum is home to an extensive archive of
posters which have featured on the London Underground over
the years. With images dating back over 100 years, perusing
this selection of artwork is a great way to learn more about
the Tube’s colourful past.
Also, until March 19, the museum is
hosting a special exhibition called Poster Parade – Painting
by Numbers. This unique display chronicles the history of
posters over the years which have represented statistical
information in artistic forms. Dating back to the early
years of the 20th century, those on show were mainly
designed to demonstrate the benefits of travelling on the
Underground.
