London prepares for 2012 Marathon
With so much excitement surrounding the
2012 Olympic Games coming to London, it might be easy to
forget about the capital’s annual marathon. Organisers,
however, are determined to ensure that this year’s event –
taking place on 22nd April – will be as impressive as ever.
The London Marathon, currently
sponsored by Virgin, has been a much-loved fixture of the
city’s calendar since its introduction over thirty years
ago, and the 2012 race should prove the perfect appetiser
for the arrival of the world’s biggest sporting spectacle in
July. This year, the Mini Marathon (which is made up of the
last three miles of the normal course and geared towards
children aged 11-17) will provide an added Olympics
incentive to runners. All those taking part in the short
form of the race will be given a ticket to one of the
summer’s events, as part of the London Marathon Charitable
Trust’s continued efforts to support grassroots athletics.

the Games.
