Iconic London clock tower to
be renamed Elizabeth Tower
27/06/2012
The iconic London Clock Tower which houses Big Ben is to be
renamed, commemorating the Queen’s incredible 60 year reign
on the throne of our country.
In a fantastic tribute to Her Majesty,
the structure will become known as ‘Elizabeth Tower’, having
been approved by a number of leading political figures.
While many accept that the clock will continue to be widely
known as Big Ben, the name given to the famous bell at the
top, many feel as if the tower should carry her Majesty’s
name as a legacy for Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen
celebrated a joyous long weekend of celebrations earlier
this month, becoming the second monarch after her
great-great grandmother to pass 60 years on the throne.
Whether its Big Ben or the Elizabeth
Tower, it is still one of London’s most popular landmarks.
It’s certainly worth a visit for anyone staying in any of
the
London hostels during the coming months.
