Over 10 000 of Her Majesty's
diamonds go on display in London
29/06/2012
A collection of more than 10,000 diamonds belonging to Her
Majesty the Queen are to go on show at London’s Buckingham
Palace, designed to commemorate the Diamond
Jubilee celebrations enjoyed earlier in the month.
Running
from June 30 through to July 8, this is a fantastic chance
to gaze in amazement at the spectacular jewels, some of
which featured are still regularly worn by the Queen while
attending official events across the world. One that is sure
to stir an interest is Queen Victoria’s small diamond crown,
emblazoned with no less than 1,100 diamonds, making it one
of the most decorated pieces in the collection. It contains
seven of the nine major stones cut from the Cullinan
Diamond, the largest diamond to ever be found.
While an
official value of the complete collection hasn’t been given,
it is certain to spiral well into the millions. If you
happen to be staying in any of the
London hostels between now and July 8, why not come down
and view the diamonds?
