London gearing up for 157th
Boat Race
02/02/2012
With the likes of the Olympic Games and
Wimbledon taking over the capital this year, it could be
forgotten that one of Britain’s oldest sporting contests
between two of the best universities in the world is also
taking place.
The 157th London Boat Race, pitting
gladiatorial crews from Oxford and Cambridge against each
other in an epic four-and-a-half mile row, will be hitting
the River Thames on 7 April.
A carnival atmosphere that sweeps over
the city as spectators line the banks cheering on their team
as the rowers toil away through West London provides an
excellent free spectacle for the whole family to enjoy.
Thousands of people are expected to
turn up at the event so be sure to get the best view
possible nice and early. Why not combine your day out on the
river banks with a stay in some of the
cheap London accommodation dotted around the capital, a
great excuse to make the most of your mini city break?
