Prestigious rowing race returns to the Thames
An army of rowing boats are preparing
to descend upon the Thames this coming March, with the
return of the annual Head of the River Race.
The event, steeped in tradition, is
quickly becoming one of the most popular rowing races in the
world; boasting 400 teams of eight coming to participate.
The contest is usually a two hour race requiring plenty of
grit and determination; beginning at Mortlake and tackling a
6800m course down to the finish line at Putney Bridge.
Head of the River Race will be held on
17 March and while the prospect of falling into the chilly
Thames might not appeal to you, it's still a fantastic event
to come and watch, enjoyed by thousands of spectators who
line the banks of the river to show their support year after
year.
The best places to observe the event are the north part of
the Hammersmith Bridge , as well as the Surrey bank above
Chiswick Bridge. If you happen to be staying in one the
London Bed & Breakfast locations, why not come along and
show your support.
