Shakespeare festival set to
delight London
03/02/2012
Britain’s most famous playwright is to
be celebrated throughout the capital this year, as part of
the Cultural Olympiad’s London 2012 Festival.
The World Shakespeare Festival is to
begin on 23 April and will run until November, with various
venues and events across the city paying homage to some of
the Bard’s greatest plays.
The festival will embrace works such
King Lear, which is running at the Almeida Theatre from 31
August to 3 November and stars award-winning actor Jonathan
Pryce.
There will also be an exhibition at the
British Museum exploring Shakespeare’s era and the world
through his eyes. Running from 19 July until 25 November,
the display will look at various objects from the museum’s
collection from around 1612 through the lens of
Shakespeare’s plays.
Representing the diverse, exciting
variety of events forming the Cultural Olympiad’s London
2012 Festival, the World Shakespeare Festival is yet another
reason to take advantage of some
cheap accommodation in London and sample one of the most
vibrant cities in the world in what is shaping up to be a
momentous year for the English capital.
